The IM Vijayan-headed technical committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had a meeting on Thursday to discuss India’s shocking defeat against Afghanistan in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match in Guwahati on Tuesday.
It has been learnt that the committee was of the view that Igor Stimac should not continue as the head coach.
The AIFF brass will have another meeting on Friday to deliberate on the committee’s suggestions.
Stimac is under fire after India’s two disappointing performances against Afghanistan — the goalless draw in Abha, Saudi Arabia, last week and the 1-2 loss in Guwahati — and there have been calls to give him the boot.
A senior official said the AIFF is going through Stimac’s contract paper to determine if the Croat’s sacking can be done amicably.
The compensation clause is the main issue that bothers the federation. “Yes, that’s the most important factor. But after such a horrendous performance and the pressure from all quarters, why should we continue with Stimac,” the official said.
India’s last two matches are in June.
