Seven Quess East Bengal (QEB) players would be going to the Players' Status Committee of the All India Football Federation through their representative, the Football Players' Association of India (FPAI), it has been learnt. They would be asking for their due salaries from QEB.

The players have already sent notice to QEB, with whom they had contracts.

Of the seven players, some have one month's salary due. Players like Abhishek Ambekar and Pintu Mahata have terminated their multiple-year contracts and will seek compensation for the remaining period.

"The delay in sending the notices was caused by a clause in the players' contracts, which said any correspondence would have to be sent physically. In this time of lockdown, players found it difficult to courier the notices," a source said.

Quess Corp terminated the agreement with East Bengal on July 17 and gave back sporting rights to the club. The liabilities though are being borne by the club.

New coach for EB

East Bengal announced Goa-based Francisco Bruto Da Costa as their new coach for the 2020-2021 season on Wednesday. The 38-year-old worked as the assistant coach of the Malaysia national team. He was also the assistant coach of the NorthEast United FC during the 2016-17 season.

“It is still not certain whether foreign players or coach would be allowed to come to India in the next few months. Francisco has a good profile too. That is why we have decided to rope in an Indian coach,” a club official said.

East Bengal officials were under pressure to announce their future plans after Mohun Bagan joined hands with ATK.
