Manchester City are 10 points ahead of their rivals and second-placed Manchester United in the English Premier League, but Edinson Cavani is not ready to throw in the towel yet.

“I’m a person who doesn’t get disillusioned easily. I try to fight and scrap until the very end. I’ve had many experiences in football which have shown me that football changes a lot. Right now we’re playing a lot, there are so many games, everything changes really quickly. The table changes fast. In the space of a week you can be six points further away and in a week you can be a point from top spot. These things can happen but, as I’ve said, I’m still hopeful and excited and I’ll keep fighting until the last breath,” United’s star striker said.

“I’ll keep fighting, giving my all, and I think that needs to be my mentality in order to be able to aspire to big things and cut the gap for the remaining part of the season, and have an end of a season in which we can dream of finishing top. We were in first place for a bit, we didn’t know how to hold onto it as we should’ve done, but that’s football.” Manchester United travel to Chelsea, who are in the middle of a good run in all competitions, on Sunday.

To build a good team, a friendly dressing room is very important. And Cavani is happy to share the dressing room with the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.

“To be honest the lads have a lot of quality, they’re players with a big future. It’s always great to cross paths with great players. I think it’s what every player wants to have, to be in a dressing room with great players. Personally I like to be with good people, who in turn are great footballers. But when you go around the world you often meet people from different cultures, with different personalities, and as I’ve always said you can't be everyone’s friend, right. You can’t be friends with everyone in the dressing room, but well, as I’ve said there are good lads here, great sportsmen who have a lot of ability and have great futures ahead of them. It’s in their hands to keep improving and performing, and well, achieving things like this.”

Cavani has played in leagues like Serie A (Palermo, Napoli) and French League (Paris Saint-Germain) and said he is enjoying the Premier League.

“Every league has its own idiosyncrasies. I’ve faced English teams before and one of the things which is always highlighted and commented on about English teams is their physicality, tough mentality and the physical capacity to really go for it, to run all game long, to not fear contact. This a new experience which is really attractive to me. It’s great. I like the intensity.”

He also thinks for a professional footballers learning to adapt quickly to new surroundings is one of the key factors for success.

“Adapting takes time. First and foremost you have to adapt to the reason you’ve come here. And then to be able to adapt as quickly as possible with your family, because it’s a cultural change, a linguistical change. There are many changes which sometimes don’t make things easy. But it’s part and parcel of being a footballer. We’re dealing with it in the best way possible. Travel restrictions have made things a little more challenging, because you can’t go out a lot.”
