When Rishabh Pant was dismissed early on Day Five, England had clearly not imagined Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah bail India out with the bat. Shami scored a fearless fifty, while Bumrah held fort from the other end to help India gain a comfortable lead of 271 runs, declaring the innings at 298/8. When both the batsmen walked back to the Lord's Long Room at Lunch, they were welcomed by a thunderous applause.

BCCI took to Twitter to share a video clip of the moment that will probably remain etched in Shami and Bumrah's memory for time to come

India's long tail wagged as Shami and Bumrah shared an unbeaten 89-run stand before the declaration came shortly after Lunch. Resuming the day at 181 for 6, India lost Rishabh Pant early but Shami (56 not out) and Bumrah (34 not out) produced a sensational stand to defy the hosts. It was Shami's second fifty in international cricket.

At Tea, England were 67 for four, chasing 272. Joe Root was standing in India's way on 33 while Ishant Sharma trapped Jonny Bairstow in the last ball of the session.

Brief scores at Tea:
