Eight gold medals for India at Asian junior boxing championships in Dubai

India clinched eight gold medals in the Asian junior boxing championships in Dubai on Sunday.

Among the boys, Rohit Chamoli (48kg) and Bharat Joon (+81kg) notched up contrasting victories.

While Chamoli defeated Mongolia’s Otgonbayar Tuvshinzaya 3-2, Joon got the better of Kazakhstan’s Yerdos Sharipbek 5-0 to finish on top.

In another final, Gaurav Saini (70kg) signed off with a silver medal after losing 0-5 to Boltaev Shavkatjon of Uzbekistan.

In girls’ competition, six pugilists picked up gold medals. Vishu Rathee (48 kg) won the gold defeating Uzbekistan’s Bakhtiyorova Robiyakhon while Tanu (52 kg) beat Tomiris Myrzakul of Kazakhstan 3-2.

Nikita Chand (60kg) outperformed Assem Tanatar of Kazakhstan to strike gold with a unanimous win and Mahi Raghav (63kg) defeated Algerim Kabdolda of Kazakhstan by a split 3-2 to bag the fourth gold in junior women’s category

Pranjal Yadav secured the fifth gold, defeating Kazakhstan’s Akzhan in a spilt decision (4:1) in the 75 kg final while Kirti ended India’s campaign with a win over Shugyla Rysebek of Kazakhstan in a split decision (4-1) in the +81kg category.
