Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood says senior pro Edinson Cavani has helped him to grow as a player.

“Cavani is someone who’s done it all, won everything, played for a number of years. So, it just, was perfect timing for him to come into the club at the time he did. He’s helped me a lot this season. He speaks to me and works with me on my heading and stuff like that. He’s a nice man and I’m very happy that he’s here at United with us,” Greenwood said.

Cavani scored from a Greenwood pass against Tottenham Hotspur a couple of weeks back in a match where the 19-year-old also was on target.

“You always need an experienced player in the team. The younger ones like myself, always look up to them and you just like, you just feed on stuff what he’s done. You just watch him train and you add it to your game ” he said.

Greenwood also attributed his success to coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

“He has got everyone’s back here at the club. He’ll never doubt any player. Always got his confidence in every player. We’re all good players here at United. It’s always a nice feeling to hear what coach has to say and it’s just about just taking it on and then just moving on with it and carry on playing and carry on doing what you can do.”

According to Greenwood for a modern-day striker it’s not just about scoring goals.

“A lot of things really. You’ve got a lot of off the ball and on the ball stuff. It’s not about goals. To some people if you’ve not scored, then you’ve done badly.

“But you’ve got to keep concentration. In United we’ve got a lot of players to link up with. A lot of players telling me what to do. I’ve got Bruno (Fernandes) in that No. 10 position. He’s always talking to me. Always giving me key tips on how I’m playing. So it’s good.

Greenwood already has a couple of years under his belt as a Manchester United player but the youngster is not taking anything for granted.

“No, never. I do not have any time to relax because there could be another player who could take my position. You’ve got to try and keep fighting for your place. I always want edto play for United. I want to be the player scoring goals. I want to be the man for United really,” Greenwood said.

United travel to Elland Road to play Leeds United on Sunday.
