SC East Bengal went to sleep in injury-time of the second half and conceded an equaliser against Hyderabad FC in an ISL VII match at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco on Friday.
Leading 1-0, thanks to Bright Enobakhare’s delightful goal, East Bengal were well on course for three points. But Aridane Santana punished the sloppy East Bengal defence with a simple tap-in from close.
The draw also meant ATK Mohun Bagan became the second team after Mumbai City to earn a play-off berth.
East Bengal took the lead in the 59th minute. Anthony Pilkington headed Sarthak Golui’s long punt towards Bright. The Nigerian made a run and scored from a one-on-one situation with a brilliant volley.
East Bengal were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty late in the game when Hyderabad goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani brought down Bright. Hyderabad were down to 10 men when Yasir was shown a straight red but they held on for the draw.
