Mumbai City FC downed SC East Bengal by a solitary goal here on Friday to consolidate their position in the ISL VII points table with a five-point lead.
The Calcutta giants displayed a fine passing game, played with intent, but a momentary lapse in concentration in the 27th minute cost them three points at the Tilak Maidan Stadium.
Mumbai City’s Senegalese centre-back Mourtada Fall was left unmarked inside the box and he utilised Hugo Boumous’ cross to perfection with a soaring header to give the ‘visitors’ the lead.
The loss ended SC East Bengal’s seven-match unbeaten streak. They remain in 10th place with 12 points from 13 matches. Mumbai City, on the other hand, have stretched their unbeaten run to 11 matches. They now have 29 points from 12 matches.
The Robbie Fowler-coached side put up a better display in the second half and ended up having a 60 per cent share of possession and a better passing accuracy but they were simply unable to find that cutting edge to convert their share of chances.
SC East Bengal went close to getting the equaliser in the 64th minute when Daniel Fox headed inches wide from a corner.
