Lauding the BCCI for its offer of rescheduling the cancelled Old Trafford Test, Sunil Gavaskar also reminded India of England’s gesture when they returned to complete a tour that was halted midway due to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.
“We, in India, should never forget what the England team did in 2008 after the horrific attack, the 26/11. They came back,” Gavaskar told the official broadcaster of the India-England Test series.
“They would have been perfectly entitled to say, ‘We don’t feel safe. We are not coming back’.”
England were playing the fifth ODI versus India in Cuttack on November 26 in 2008 when terrorists attacked Mumbai, leading to the cancellation of the last two matches of the series. England, led by Kevin Pietersen then, headed home immediately but later returned for the two-Test series.
