India’s Test team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has donated Rs 10 lakh to the Maharastra chief minister’s relief fund for the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Bengal’s Ranji Trophy winning captain Sambaran Banerjee and the West Bengal Badminton Association have promised Rs 1 lakh each to chief minister’s relief fund. Also, Sanjay Gupta, a member of CAB’s finance committee, has pledged to donate Rs. 1 crore through his company Captain Steel India Ltd directly.

Marathon time on the balcony

A South African couple, who ran a marathon on the balcony of their Dubai apartment, streaming it online, plan to take the project global to help people shake off the coronavirus blues. Collin Allin, 41, and wife Hilda covered the 42.2km (26 mile) distance by running more than 2,100 laps of their 20m long balcony from dawn on Saturday. A stopwatch provided by the couple shows they covered the distance in five hours, nine minutes and 39 seconds. The couple’s 10-year-old daughter Geena acted as race director, putting up signs marking “start” and “turn around” and providing her parents with water and snacks as well as inspirational music. Allin said he planned to organise a “bigger, global and more inclusive run next” where people under lockdown who are keen to stretch their legs can join for a few kilometres or more.

Online training

Their training halted by the coronavirus-forced national lockdown, India’s Olympic-bound boxers will be provided online classes by their coaches from Monday to ensure that aspects like mental well-being and nutrition are taken care of. “A challenging time and all the more a reason to take care of ourselves,” Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh said.

England women’s cricket team captain Heather Knight has joined the National Health Service as a volunteer to help the healthcare system fight the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK. She will help in transporting medicines and spreading awareness about the disease.
