Cheeky as ever, Diego Maradona’s wish for his 60th birthday is to score another goal against England — this time with his right hand.
The Argentine great’s most famous — and most infamous — goal went into the net off his left fist in the 1986 World Cup quarter finals. It has become known as the “Hand of God.”
“I dream to score another goal against the English, this time with the right hand,” Maradona, who turned 60 on Friday, said in an interview with France Football magazine.
Maradona has been isolating at home in recent days after coming in contact with a person who showed symptoms of coronavirus and the Gimnasia y Esgrima coach could miss the restart of the Argentine league.
Nevertheless, tributes poured in from around the world. On Instagram, former Brazil striker Ronaldo Nazario, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho and former Italy captain Franco Baresi shared their best wishes. “I start my 60th with these marvellous messages that you’ve all sent me,” Maradona said in response. “Thanks for your love and your friendship. This is the best present you could have given me.”
A billboard featuring Maradona’s face was also unveiled on Buenos Aires’ majestic central Avenida.
