Calcutta: A pile of rubble strewn around the ground and a bulldozer parked inside the turf will make you stand up and take notice as you enter the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium.

This will be the venue of Atletico de Kolkata's home matches in ISL 3 and work is on in full swing to get the stadium ready in time for their opening home fixture against Chennaiyin FC on October 2.

"Don't worry things will be in place by September 26... The ground and the floodlights will be ready by then," assured Subrata Talukdar of ATK.

The Calcutta franchise of the Indian Super League has been working on a war footing for the past fortnight to give a new-look to the stadium. ISL pitch manager Salil Khandekar has been put in charge of the turf.

"The pitch is not an issue. It hasn't been relaid... The unevenness of the surface is being done away with. New grass has been implanted in some areas to sort out this problem. I can assure you it will be better than the turf we played at the Salt Lake Stadium last year," said Talukdar.

A Hyderabad company will install the floodlights and work is on in full swing. A transformer is also being set up inside the complex to ensure uninterrupted power supply during matches.

The stadium will accommodate 13,000 spectators with the main pavilion being renovated to house the VIPs and special guests during matches.

Hospitality boxes will be set up on either side of the main pavilion. "The stadium will host such high-profile matches after a long time. But once the ball starts rolling, it will be smooth," Talukdar said.
