The country could have treated itself with fours and sixes on the last Sunday of March, but instead Indians, much like the rest of the world, are at sixes and sevens trying to keep the coronavirus away.

Had it not been for the Covid-19 pandemic, Sunday would have seen the IPL 2020 opener — between Rohit Sharma’s defending champions Mumbai Indians and three-time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) — at the Wankhede in Mumbai. But thanks to the dreaded virus, the most popular T20 league in the world has been suspended till April 15. And the wait is expected to get even longer.

So on Sunday, the official Twitter handle of the IPL was left to post a video of the last over of the 2019 final, which was played between the same two teams.

Mumbai Indians chose to post a picture of a flood-lit Wankhede overlooking the Marine Drive with the text: “We’ll wait for the floodlights to turn on at the Wankhede Stadium! Safety first, Paltan.”

CSK, who are captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, perhaps explained it perfectly. “What a Sunday this would have been! Sigh! #WhistlePoduFromHome,” they tweeted.

Star Sports, the official broadcasters of the IPL, started showing 50 of the greatest IPL games from Sunday.
