The Commonwealth Games-bound Indian athletes and officials will be staying at five different “Villages” with the women’s cricket team put up in a separate facility in the Birmingham city centre.
India will send 215 sports persons across 16 disciplines for the Games beginning July 28. The overall contingent size including team officials is 325. Breaking the norm, the organisers of Birmingham 2022 have arranged five different villages to accommodate more than 5000 athletes who are set to take part in the Games.
According to organisers, this has been done keeping in mind the pandemic situation. All need to undergo a RTPCR test for Covid-19, 72 hours prior to their arrival in the UK. Swimmers, athletes, gymnasts along with squash and hockey players will be staying in Commonwealth Games Village Birmingham while those taking part in badminton, boxing, table tennis, weightlifting and triathlon will be put up in the village at the NEC Campus. Villages at Warwick, the city centre and the Satellite Village will house the others.
