Former Bengal left-arm orthodox Murtaza Lodhgar died of cardiac arrest late on Friday night in Visakhapatnam.

Lodhgar, 45, was the head coach of Mizoram U-19 squad and had been getting his wards ready for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy that begins from September 28.

The Cricket Association of Bengal flag remained half-mast on Saturday in Lodhgar’s honour. The Bengal U-25 men, senior women’s team, coaches and support staff also observed a minute’s silence during their practice sessions as a mark of respect for Lodhgar.

Lodhgar played nine first-class and five List A matches, taking 34 and four wickets, respectively.
