Eoin Morgan, England’s 50-over World Cup-winning captain, retired from international cricket on Tuesday.

“To call time on what has been without doubt the most enjoyable and rewarding chapter of my career hasn’t been an easy decision,” Morgan said. “But I believe now is the right time to do so, both for me, personally, and for both England white-ball sides I have led to this point.

“I have been lucky enough to play in two World Cup winning teams, but I believe the future for England’s white-ball teams is brighter than ever. We have more experience, more strength and more depth than ever before.”

The 35-year-old Morgan, who captained England in a record 126 ODIs and 72 T20s, led the team to victory in the 50-over World Cup in 2019. He retires with a slew of records to his name, including most ODI runs for England (6,957) and 118 wins as skipper across ODI and T20Is.

“To what lies ahead for me, I will continue to enjoy playing at a domestic level while I can,” Morgan added.

NZ tour after Cup

India will be touring New Zealand for a white-ball series comprising three T20Is and as many ODIs after the T20 World Cup in Australia, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said on Tuesday.

The series will be held from November 18 to 30 and New Zealand will return to India for a white-ball series in January next year. “India will arrive in New Zealand at the conclusion of the World Cup to play in three T20s at Wellington, Tauranga and Napier, and three ODIs at Auckland, Hamilton and Christchurch,” NZC said in a release.

“The BLACKCAPS will then depart for the subcontinent for a tour of Pakistan and a short form series in India.” In a jam-packed international schedule, New Zealand will also play a day-night Test against England, while six teams will tour the country in the 2022-23 home summer. (PTI)
