Skipper Meg Lanning (53 off 38 balls) and Jemimah Rodrigues (69 not out off 33 balls) came up with major contributions that laid the platform for Delhi Capitals’ 29-run win over Mumbai Indians in Tuesday’s Women’s Premier League clash at the Ferozeshah Kotla in the capital.

The Capitals are at the top of the table with eight points while Mumbai Indians slipped to third. Royal Challengers Bangalore moved up to second by virtue of a superior net run rate.

Lanning’s innings at the top gave her side a much-needed foundation, but it was Jemimah, whose knock powered the Capitals to 192/4. She finished with eight boundaries and three maximums.

In reply, Mumbai Indians lost the plot once they were reduced to 29/3 in three overs with captain Harmanpreet Kaur back in the dugout. Courtesy Amanjot Kaur (42) and Sajeevan Sajana (24 not out), they could somehow manage 163/8.

Brief scores: DC Women 192/4 in 20 ovs (M. Lanning 53, J. Rodrigues 69 n.o.). MI Women 163/8 in 20 ovs (A. Kaur 42; J. Jonassen 3/21). DC Women won by 29 runs.
