Mumbai Indians recorded their fifth win on the trot in the inaugural Women’s Premier League. At the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, Mumbai brushed Gujarat Giants aside by 55 runs to cement their position at the top of the standings.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (51) scored her second straight half-century and her third in four innings so far in the competition. In spite of that, Mumbai suffered a late collapse and could somehow manage 162/8 after being put in by the Giants.

However, Mumbai’s bowlers ensured the late collapse didn’t matter at all as led by Nat Sciver-Brunt (3/21) and Hayley Matthews (3/23), they limited the Gujarat side to 107/9 for a comprehensive win. Harmanpreet was adjudged Player of the Match.

RCB’s last chance

Calcutta: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) must win against UP Warriorz at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai if they are to keep their Women’s Premier League knockout hopes alive.

Having lost all their five matches so far, RCB need to win their remaining three games. The results of other contests, especially those of table-toppers Mumbai Indians and second-placed Delhi Capitals, also need to go in their favour if RCB have to make the knockout stage.

However, instead of thinking about what could happen in the other matches, RCB need to concentrate on what’s in their control, which is winning all their remaining games of the league phase. Yet another loss means they are out of contention for a knockout berth.

On the other hand, full points from Tuesday’s game are crucial for the Warriorz too as that would take them closer to the top two.
