India will look to conclude the final leg of their preparations for the Women’s T20 World Cup with a win in the tri-series final against South Africa at Buffalo Park on Thursday.
With not many days left for the Cup, winning this title should go on to be a big boost for the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side which is yet to lose any game in this South African sojourn.
Following their 1-4 series loss to Australia at home, India have bounced back with three wins in the tri-series and would be hoping to end the tournament on a high before they enter the 10-team showpiece event beginning on February 10.
India had got the better of South Africa in the tri-series opener before their next league fixture against the latter was washed out. India also beat the West Indies twice to confirm their place in the final.
However, in the World Cup, India’s main challenge will be to outsmart the likes of England, Australia and New Zealand.
With eight wickets in three games, spinner all-rounder Deepti Sharma will be the go-to bowler for India in the final. Not just in this tournament, but for quite some time, Deepti has been one of the most consistent performers for the Indian team.
What also bodes well for India is Jemimah Rodrigues, who had been struggling for form, getting some much-needed runs in the final league game against the Windies.
A big positive for India was the return of pacer Pooja Vastrakar, who had been out of action due to an injury.
Overall, Kaur and the rest of the group are well-placed in terms of preparation as all that matters now is their execution on the field.
