Sunil Gavaskar is known to have a sharp memory and vividly remembers every aspect of his playing days which ended 35 years ago.
The legendary opener’s recollection of events was put to the test when Bengal’s Ranji Trophy-winning captain Sambaran Banerjee asked him if he recalled how he was dismissed after 340, his highest first-class score. “Stumped Sambaran bowled Dilip Doshi,” pat came the reply during a question-answer session on the opening day of Infocom 2022, an ABP initiative.
Gavaskar along with Gundappa Viswanath, an artist with the willow, were in conversation with Ambarish Dasgupta, Senior Partner, Intueri Consulting.
“I played my cricket, that’s it... I’m not sure if I was an artist... I didn’t see the pitch, I picked up the length of the ball and played according to that,” Viswanath said.
Malhotra on panel
Calcutta: The BCCI on Thursday set up a Cricket Advisory Committee comprising former India players Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik. The trio will interview candidates for the new senior men’s selection panel.
The old one remains in place but only as a temporary measure. The previous members were effectively sacked by the BCCI in the aftermath of India’s T20 World Cup exit. Former chairman of the committee Chetan Sharma is learnt to have once again put his name up for consideration.
