Indian cricket's set-up will soon witness a complete overhaul following a change of personnel at its very top.

While Gautam Gambhir is almost certain to replace Rahul Dravid as the Team India head coach after the T20 World Cup, VVS Laxman has also informed the Board that he will not continue as head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Sources told The Telegraph that Laxman's contract at the NCA ends later this year and he's not keen for a renewal. The former India batter came on board in 2021 when Sourav Ganguly was the Board president.

The Hyderabad-based Laxman has cited family commitments for his refusal to continue at the NCA helm. He had earlier turned down an offer from the Board to take over from Dravid as head coach.

Laxman though is expected to return to his commentary assignments on a short-term basis.

As NCA chief, Laxman played an important role in restructuring the national men's and women's teams in different age groups and at the senior level. He also played a key role in turning the centre, now located inside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, into a state-of-the-art facility for honing skills and rehabilitation.

The NCA would soon be moving to its own space on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The facility will include a residential complex besides three cricket grounds and Laxman has been instrumental in setting up this Centre of Excellence.

Laxman didn't respond to phone calls and WhatsApp messages from The Telegraph.

The Board hasn't yet decided on Laxman's replacement but a lot could depend on the composition of Gambhir's support staff.

WV Raman's presentation before the Cricket Advisory Committee last week was much appreciated by the Ashok Malhotra-led three-member panel. Keeping in mind his vast coaching experience, it is believed that Raman could be an important addition to the Team India support staff or at the NCA. He is adept at handling both responsibilities with aplomb.

The former India opener has previously worked with several youngsters, including Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, and his technical acumen is good. His presence could benefit India cricket and has emerged as a strong candidate for the batting coach's position.

In such a scenario, current incumbent Vikram Rathour could be shifted to the NCA since he has had the experience of working there previously. The Board is not in a rush and a clearer picture could emerge next month.
