Delhi Capitals all-rounder Mitch Marsh has been hospitalised after testing positive for Covid-19, the franchise confirmed late on Monday. The entire contingent has been quarantined for at least two days.
Marsh is the third Capitals member after physio Patrick Farhart and a masseur to test positive.
The Capitals’ scheduled practice sessions in Pune for Monday and Tuesday have been cancelled and a call will be taken on whether they will travel to Pune for their match against Punjab Kings on Wednesday.
The entire Capitals contingent underwent fresh RT-PCR tests on Monday after Marsh tested positive in a rapid antigen test following their match against RCB on Saturday. In the evening, the RT-PCR test done by the BCCI medical team returned positive too.
Sources told The Telegraph that a Capitals team doctor, a social media volunteer and three staff members at Hotel Taj Palace in Mumbai, where they are staying, also returned positive tests. Fresh tests are expected to take place on the contingent on Tuesday.
A Capitals media release didn’t name the other members who returned positive tests, except Marsh, but said they were “all asymptomatic”.
According to the IPL rules, any person testing positive in the bubble would need to isolate for a minimum of seven days. The person would need to return two consecutive negative RT-PCR tests taken 24 hours apart to re-enter the bubble.
Under the rules, if a franchise has multiple positive cases, the team can take the field with a minimum of 12 players, including seven Indians and one substitute. If 12 players are not available, then the IPL technical committee would take the final call, which would be binding.
