Virat Kohli's fitness mantra works wonders for Royal Challengers Bangalore's Richa Ghosh

Richa, who is back in the national team since being dropped from the Bangladesh tour last July, also acknowledged that the ongoing WPL carries greater importance because of the T20 World Cup in September-October in the neighbouring country

Consistency has been key for Bengal girl Richa Ghosh since her return to the India Women’s fold while the team culture at her WPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore has also worked in the 20-year-old’s favour.

One of the integral features is fitness, as inspired by franchise icon Virat Kohli.

“Fitness is the culture here at RCB. Viratbhaiyya has brought about this fitness culture and it’s helping each and everyone of us,” the keeper-batter from Siliguri told The Telegraph on Friday. “For me, I feel I need to improve in all aspects of my game: batting, wicketkeeping and fitness. And fitness is precisely where I’m laying the most emphasis at present.”

Besides, the team’s bonding sessions playing “table tennis and board games” have been beneficial, Richa said, “as the domestic players, in particular, get to know about the international stars and also start having an idea about the international stage.”

T20 Cup preparation

Richa, who is back in the national team since being dropped from the Bangladesh tour last July, also acknowledged that the ongoing WPL carries greater importance because of the T20 World Cup in September-October in the neighbouring country.

“For me, the WPL has so far helped me analyse and fathom how I can apply myself according to the needs of the situation. I believe it’s giving me the perfect opportunity to learn and execute, keeping the World Cup in mind,” Richa, who has scored 81 runs for RCB Women in two innings so far this season, said.
