Bengal Under-19 bowlers Amrit Raj Upadhyay and Ravi Kumar have been named in the 20-member India squad for the upcoming ACC Asia Cup for the age-group to be played in the UAE from December 23.
Left-arm spinner Amrit and medium pacer Ravi have been on top of their game of late with both participating in the recently concluded U-19 triangular series, which was played at Eden Gardens in Calcutta.
An ecstatic Ravi said he couldn’t have asked for anything more. “I am very excited and happy. There’s nothing better than representing your country, a dream-come-true feeling. Playing in the triangular series, it was the first time that I had been selected for an U-19 team and now I have got into the India U-19 squad as well,” Ravi said.
Amrit is banking on his hard work and his recent experience of playing in the triangular series to help him during his stint with the Indian U-19 team. “I have practised hard, gave my everything.
“I thank the CAB… My coaches guided me through my journey and I’m also grateful to Bengal U-19 coach Devang Gandhi who helped me get here. I hope to do well for the national team,” Upadhyay said.
Avishek Dalmiya, the CAB president, congratulated the duo. “I congratulate the two young cricketers on being selected. We are hopeful that they will prove their merit,” he said.
