A few weeks ago, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) had promised “affordable” prices of tickets for the ODI World Cup games at Eden Gardens this October-November.
But barring the Bangladesh-Netherlands game on October 28, which is the first of the five matches at the Eden, the ticket prices for all the remaining games have been raised owing to the significance the World Cup carries, CAB president Snehasish Ganguly said after Monday’s apex body meeting.
The prices for the October 28 game are Rs 650 (all upper tiers), 1,000 (D and H blocks) and 1,500 (B,C, K and L blocks) — similar to that of the India-Sri Lanka ODI earlier in January.
But for the two marquee games — India-South Africa on November 5 and the second semi-final on November 16 — one has to shell out Rs 900 for upper-tier tickets, 1,500 for blocks D and H, 2,500 for blocks C and K, Rs 3,000 for blocks B and L.
The Pakistan-Bangladesh (October 31) and the Pakistan-England matches will have tickets priced at Rs 800 (upper tiers), 1,200 (D and H blocks), 2,000 (C and K blocks) and 2,200 (B and L blocks).
The CAB also expects some advice from its former president Sourav Ganguly (also ex-president of BCCI) in its preparation for the World Cup. A team from the BCCI and the ICC is set to come for an inspection next week.
