The Melbourne Cricket Club is confident that the Boxing Day Test, starting on Sunday, will not turn into a super-spreader event as the fans have been told they will be ousted from the venue if they flout Covid-19 protocols.
There is no crowd cap for attendance at the MCG this year and according to local media, about 55,000 tickets have already been sold. Around 70,000 people are expected to watch the match from the venue on the first day.
“There’s always risk (of a superspreader event), but we’ve got a Covid-safe plan in place for a reason,” Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox was quoted as saying by Sydney Morning Herald.
Wearing masks is a must for the fans.
Langer hint
Australia coach Justin Langer on Thursday hinted that he would seek an extension of his four-year contract, expiring in June 2022, saying he “loves his job”.
Langer had faced criticism from the players for his coaching methods, but all that has been buried under Australia’s T20 World Cup success. The former opener insisted he hasn’t changed his thought process. “I have been consistent with what I have said for the last four years. I love my job. The boys are playing well, it’s a great team to be involved in. So nothing has changed from my point of view,” he said.
