Rishabh Pant is loving almost every moment of his comeback to international cricket.
This year's IPL marked his return to competitive cricket, while he was also a member of India's triumphant T20 World Cup squad. Not that he struggled in white-ball cricket, but he couldn't get a big score to crown his comeback.
But his favourite format did not disappoint him. Test cricket has allowed the keeper-batter to spread his wings. And how! Pant displayed his shot-making prowess to the fullest as he recorded his sixth Test century in Chennai.
"After the injury (in December 2022), I wanted to play all three formats and this was my first Test on return (to international cricket). I'm loving it every day," Pant told the official broadcasters after India's 280-run win over Bangladesh on Sunday.
After reaching the three-figure mark on Saturday, Pant looked skywards and blew a kiss in a muted celebration.
"It (the celebration after completing his hundred) was emotional as I wanted to score in every game, which I couldn't. But coming back to Test cricket, which is where I belong the most, I just enjoyed batting and as I said, I got a little bit emotional (after the century)."
Elaborating on how he read the situation when India were three down for 67 in their second innings, Pant stated: "I try to read the situation my way. When you are 60-odd for three, you need to stitch a partnership. That's what (Shubman) Gill and I did.
"I feel when you're batting with someone you have a great relationship with even outside the field, it really helps."
