Punjab, Vidarbha and Saurashtra reached the quarter finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
In the pre-quarter final games held on Sunday, Punjab defeated Haryana by 49 runs at Eden Gardens, while Vidarbha recorded a five-wicket win over Chhattisgarh at the JU Salt Lake campus ground. In the evening at the Eden, Saurashtra edged Kerala out by nine runs.
For Punjab, Prabhsimran Singh (64) and opener Abhishek Sharma (55 not out) helped the team total to 176 for 7. Senior pacer Siddarth Kaul (2/29) and Baltej Singh (3/20) then restricted Haryana to 127 for 9.
Pacer Umesh Yadav (3/27) and opener Sanjay Raghunath (63) starred for Vidarbha. Former India head coach John Wright, currently scouting for Mumbai Indians, visited the Eden on Sunday.
