Suryakumar Yadav turned the tide in India’s favour with an extraordinary innings in Dubai on Wednesday. The ease with which he executed some of those “pre-determined” shots left everyone in awe of his batting prowess.
Rohit Sharma lauded Surya’s “fearless effort” which yielded 68 not out off 26 balls. “The kind of innings he played today, words will be short. We have seen that every now and then he comes up with such kinds of knocks,” the captain said.
“He just comes out and bats fearlessly, which is what the team expects from him. Some of the shots he played were not written anywhere in the book. It was very pleasing to watch. The shot selection was also crucial... we know he can play all around the park, and that’s what he did today,” Rohit said.
Surya said he always prepares well before going out to bat. “Some of the shots are predetermined, this format is all about what you think and how you prepare before you go out to bat. At the same time, you got to be staying in the present,” the Man of the Match said.
“I felt the wicket was a bit slow. My plan was clear. My role was to go in and increase the tempo and just express myself... I just loved it.” Surya said he can adapt to different positions. “You got to be flexible, you should be equipped to bat at any number and I have opened as well.”
India, Pak fined
India and Pakistan were fined 40 per cent of their match fees each for maintaining a slow over-rate in their Group A match on Sunday. Both teams were found to be two overs short of the target.
