Suryakumar Yadav will captain India in the five-match T20I series against Australia beginning in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
With majority of the ODI World Cup squad rested and all-rounder Hardik Pandya not yet recovered from the left ankle injury, Surya seemed to be the obvious choice for the captain’s role.
Shreyas Iyer will be joining the squad as vice-captain for the last two T20Is in Raipur and Bangalore on December 1 and 3, respectively.
Spinner all-rounder Axar Patel, who missed the World Cup due to quadriceps strain, is back in the squad which also features Yashasvi Jaiswal and Bengal quick Mukesh Kumar.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi and off-spinner all-rounder Washington Sundar along with quicks Avesh Khan and Prasidh Krishna (who replaced Pandya in the ODI Cup squad) are also in the squad.
