Such was the impact of Suryakumar Yadav’s 51-ball unbeaten 111 that even New Zealand captain Kane Williamson termed it as strokeplay of the “next level”.

For Suryakumar, though, what matters is to keep calm and carry on with the job laid out for him. Besides, he has one eye on securing a berth in India’s Test squad.

“Aa raha hai, woh (Test selection) bhi aa raha hai (Coming, that’s also coming),” he said at the post-match news conference after India thrashed New Zealand by 65 runs in the second and penultimate T20I in Moutn Maunganui on Sunday.

“When we start playing cricket, we start with the red ball. And I have also played first-class cricket for Mumbai. It was quite okay, so I have a fair idea about the Test format and I enjoy playing that format as well. Hopefully, I will get the Test cap soon.”

“It’s all about looking at the positives and putting in the hard yards. I’m just reaping the benefits of that,” Suryakumar added.
