Sunil Gavaskar feels Virat Kohli should open with skipper Rohit Sharma in India's T20 World Cup opener against Ireland on Wednesday with Yashasvi Jaiswal dropping down to the No.3 position.
There has been a lot of debate about what Kohli's batting order would be in the T20 World Cup.
Kohli has been India's designated No.3 batter in the white-ball format. However, there have been calls for him to open the batting after his success in the IPL.
"Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open the batting along with Yashasvi Jaiswal at three," Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
Opening for RCB in the IPL, Kohli amassed 741 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of over 154. He struck a century and five fifties during the prolific run.
"Suryakumar Yadav at four, Rishabh Pant at five. At No.6, I would have Hardik Pandya, No.7 would be Ravindra Jadeja, No.8, not necessarily in that batting order, Shivam Dube. No.9 Kuldeep Yadav, No. 10 Jasprit Bumrah and No. 11 will be Siraj," Gavaskar said completing his XI.
After the Ireland game, India will next take on arch-rivals Pakistan in New York on Sunday.
