The frailties of India’s batting were exposed by South Africa in pace friendly conditions in Perth on Sunday.
Questions are also being raised about whether India should be continuing with KLRahul at the top of the order as he has looked out of sorts in the three matches so far with scores of 4, 9 and 9. But one loss shouldn’t set off the alarm, feels Sourav Ganguly.
The former India captain is optimistic about India making the semi-finals of the World Cup.
“They have suffered just one defeat so far. One defeat doesn't mean anything. They are a good side and I believe they will surely bounce back and qualify for the semi-finals,” Sourav, who was present at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s annual general meeting at a city hotel on Monday, told reporters.
“After reaching the semi-finals, it’s about two matches and anything can happen in those games. But yes, India do have a chance of reaching the final as well,” Sourav added.
Rohit Sharma and his teammates face Bangladeshnext at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.
Full points against the Shakib-al Hasan-led side will take India a step closer to the last-four stage.
Sourav was asked if India should include wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pantin the XI in their coming matches.
“That depends solely on the team management. I’m not in a position to say,” Sourav said.
