Opener Smriti Mandhana’s stroke-filled unbeaten 79 off 53 balls and off-spinner Sneh Rana’s three wickets helped India Women to an eight-wicket win over England in the second T20I and level the series 1-1 in Derby.

“I’m really happy, we played well. Everyone was looking forward to winning today, that’s something I’m happy about. We do have plans for all batters, but it was important that we executed them... the fielders too supported the bowlers well,” captain Harmanpreet Kaur said.

England’s decision to bat first on Tuesday night backfired as the hosts were reduced to 54 for five inside 10 overs. Thereafter Freya Kemp (51 not out) and Maia Bouchier (34 off 26) shared 65 runs for the sixth wicket as the hosts reached 142for six.

Chasing, India’s Mandhana and Shafali Verma (20) added 55 runs in the first six overs. Harmanpreet (29not out off 22) then joined Mandhana at the crease to complete the formalities in 16.4 overs.

Brief scores: England 142/6 in 20 (Sneh Rana 3/24). India 146/2 in 16.4 ovs (Smriti Mandhana 79 n.o.).India won by 8 wkts.
