Captain Rohit Sharma admitted his team batted poorly, after their 100-run loss to England in the second ODI at Lord’s on Thursday. Though the pitch aided bowlers to a certain extent, the 247-run target was certainly chase-able, Rohit stated. “We bowled pretty well. They (England) had that partnership in the middle with Moeen (Ali) and (David) Willey.
“Not that the target wasn’t chase-able, but we just didn’t get there. We didn’t do well enough with the bat,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation. India’s target would have been much lesser had Prasidh Krishna not dropped Willey in the deep, when the left-hander was just on one.
“If you want to win games, you have to take those catches,” Rohit accepted. Asked if India’s long tail for this game was a factor, Rohit replied: “That has been there for a long time now. We have enough of bowling options, while we also understand we have a long tail. One of the top-order guys must bat as long as possible.”
