The towering 6'7" left-arm seamer Josh Hull is all set to make his England debut in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka at The Oval beginning on Friday.
Hull, 20, will replace Matthew Potts in the game as England look to secure a 3-0 series sweep in their final home Test of the summer after a 190-run win in the second Test at Lord's.
Leicestershire's Hull was also called up for the second Test following Mark Wood's thigh injury, but he did not play. He played for the Lions in a warm-up game against Sri Lanka last month.
Stand-in captain Ollie Pope explained that Hull has a "massive ceiling" that will show when he gets his opportunity. "He has obviously got a massive ceiling and he is pretty massive himself as well, which is pretty handy as a bowler," Pope said.
"When you are six feet seven inches tall, you can get it down pushing up to the 90mph mark. And with the left-arm swing, there is a lot to like about it.
"I think it's a very exciting week for him. This last match of the series... We are 2-0 up, but he is obviously going to still have those nerves coming in. We know what he can do moving forward.
"It is a great week for him to come in, learn a little bit and show off exactly what he can do."
England will give Hull the necessary backing, confirmed head coach Brendon McCullum. "We hope he goes well.
"We see him as someone who's worth investing in and giving opportunities to. And whatever happens, we'll wrap our arm around him and make sure that he knows he's firmly in our sights for the future," McCullum emphasised.
