Shubman Gill is not a certainty in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, but the opener is not worried about his chances. The Gujarat Titans captain is concentrating on his leadership role and wants to keep all other thoughts aside.

“I am not thinking about my selection for the T20 World Cup. I have been given a specific role in the IPL by my franchise and I am concentrating on that.

“My priority now is the Titans team and the players involved. As a player, I’m only thinking about scoring runs for my team,” Gill said during an interaction on Thursday.

“As a player, I learnt a lot from the World Cup in India. I realised the significance of playing a World Cup and it’s always a dream to represent India in the World Cup. But if I don’t make the grade this time after scoring nearly 900 runs (890 in 17 matches) last season, I can only say that I will cheer for the players and wish them luck.”

He doesn’t agree that captaincy has affected his batting, scoring 304 runs in nine matches.

“That doesn’t mean that I’m compromising as a batter. When I go out and take guard in the middle, I bat not as a captain but Shubman the batter. I don’t take any tension when batting just because I am the captain,” the India opener said.

Gill doesn’t wish to get into much details about the Impact player rule that is benefiting the teams in the IPL.

The rule is not part of international cricket... It’s in place in the IPL which makes it interesting but I don’t know if it’s beneficial,” he said.
