Shikhar Dhawan will lead India in the three-match ODI series in West Indies later this month, the BCCI announced on Wednesday.
Ravindra Jadeja will be Dhawan’s deputy in the 16-member squad that has notable absentees in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Mohammed Shami besides the injured KL Rahul.
Dhawan led India thrice in ODIs last year in Sri Lanka when other senior players were involved with the Test side in England.
The squad includes Ruturaj Gaikwad besides Shubman Gill, who is back into the ODI setup for the first time since the tour of Australia in 2020.
Sanju Samson replaces Pant as the second wicketkeeper while pacer Arshdeep Singh, included for the ODIs against England, keeps his place. Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel along with all-rounder Deepak Hooda, are the spinners in the squad.
India’s tour of the West Indies begins with the ODIs in Port of Spain, Trinidad from July 22. They will also play five T20Is, across Trinidad, St Kitts & Nevis and Lauderhill, Florida (USA), before the tour ends on August 7.
