Sunil Narine did everything possible to ensure Kolkata Knight Riders notched their fifth win in IPL 2024 on Tuesday until Jos Buttler decided to spoil his party.
England's limited overs captain's unbeaten century gave Rajasthan Royals a thrilling two-wicket win off the last ball at Eden Gardens. Even as the KKR players struggled to come to terms with the loss, principal owner Shah Rukh Khan tried to lift the spirits of the players with a motivational speech in the dressing room.
"Honestly, it's a very proud day. The way we played, all of us. I won't take individual names... Don't feel down GG (Gautam Gambhir). We would all bounce back. It's God's plan for today, as Rinku says. I think this is what we would like them to do. We'll be back with more and better god's plan," Shah Rukh said.
The team's death bowling will be scrutinised in the coming days ahead of the RCB match on Sunday. But Shah Rukh decided to look at the brighter side even in the heart-breaking loss.
"There are days in our lives, in sports especially, when we don't deserve to lose. And there are also days when we don't deserve to win. But days are like that. Today we didn't deserve to lose...
"We have to be very, very proud of ourselves. Please don't feel sad or down. Feel as happy as we feel whenever we come to the change room. We are on a high, so maintain the high. The main thing is the energy in all of us. And I think we have great energy on the field," Shah Rukh said.
