Former West Indies speedster Ian Bishop, “a Sanju Samson fan”, reckons that the Rajasthan Royals skipper is wasting good form in pressing for a recall to the Indian T20 set-up.
“Sanju is wasting good form and good opportunity to score runs to press for an international recall, to lead his team when Jos Buttler doesn’t score,” Bishop said on ESPNcricinfo’s “T20 Time Out”.
Samson looked in good touch against RCB on Tuesday but could only manage 27 off 21 before Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga knocked his off stump with a wrong’un. It was the perfect opportunity for the Rajasthan captain to rise to the occasion after
Buttler was dismissed early in the game.
“It’s not that Sanju’s out of form. But that’s a match-up with Wanindu Hasaranga and him, and he should have known better. He got out of the blocks quite nicely,” Bishop said of the right-handed batsman. “I’m a Sanju Samson fan, been that way for years now, (but) he’s wasting good form by shot selection.”
The wicketkeeper-batter, who is still on the fringes of the India T20 team, last featured in the home series against Sri Lanka in February.
