Lasith Malinga was the last-over hero for the Mumbai Indians, but Jasprit Bumrah and Rahul Chahar were the top performers with the ball for the Rohit Sharma-led team as they won their fourth IPL title.

Both Bumrah and Chahar gave away just 14 runs each from four overs. While Bumrah got two wickets, young Rahul picked up one.

Bumrah was adjudged the Man of the Match. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Bumrah said: “I’m very happy... We knew the final could be close, so wanted to stay calm. Winning fourth title for the Mumbai Indians makes me very happy. Today, I was surprisingly very calm. I wasn’t panicking, just focusing on the next ball. It doesn’t help taking extra pressure, instead I back my skills.”

Former India captain Sachin Tendulkar, who is the Mumbai Indians’ Icon, termed the run out of Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the turning point of the game.

“The key moment was Dhoni’s run out. Also Bumrah bowled so well to even out Malinga’s one poor over. But in the last over, I thought Malinga finished the game out beautifully.

“We had defended 129 in the final two years ago, so we were confident. I think we have a terrific team, the right mixture of experience and youth. Rahul Chahar stands out the way he’s bowled this season… Just fabulous. And don’t forget Hardik (Pandya). We were in the corner in many games this season and Hardik bailed us out,” Sachin said.

Mumbai Indians coach Mahela Jayawardene admitted that he was a bit nervous when Super Kings’ Shane Watson was unleashing the big shots. Watson made 80 off 59 balls and was run out in the final over.

“Thought we had the game when MS got out, but then Watto started hitting. Some great decisions by Rohit (Sharma), going back to experienced bowlers at the death. This is why we wanted to defend,” Mahela said.
