Virat Kohli versus Mayank Yadav was certainly one of the match-ups at the Chinnaswamy on Tuesday. That didn’t transpire though as Kohli departed before Mayank was brought into the attack, falling to the guile of young left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddharth (Impact Player for Quinton de Kock).

Mayank, however, made an impact once again and even clocked 156.7kmph this time. Following his double blows, the west Delhi boy removed Rajat Patidar, who had tried to fight back for RCB along with their Impact Player Mahipal Lomror (33 off 13 balls), in his final over and finished with superb figures of 3/14 as the home team was all out for 153 with two balls remaining.

Courtesy this victory, the Lucknow Super Giants moved to fourth in the standings. For Royal Challengers Bengaluru, this was their third defeat.

Earlier, Quinton de Kock (81 off 56 balls) and captain KL Rahul got Lucknow off to a solid start on a two-paced wicket after they were put into bat. But Maxwell, making good use of the pitch with his part-time off-spin, dismissed Rahul in the final over of the Powerplay before sending a well-set Marcus Stoinis back in the 14th over.

Stoinis’ departure helped the RCB bowlers apply the brakes on Lucknow’s scoring as even De Kock struggled to unleash the big strokes. Thanks to Nicholas Pooran (40 not out off 21 balls), who smashed five maximums in the death overs, the visitors could breach the 180 mark.
