All the 17 players who were selected for the recently concluded Ireland series will be in the squad for the first T20I in Southampton with skipper Rohit being the only addition to that group.

The squad for the second and third T20Is have a different look as Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah have been included.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led India in Ireland, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Ishan Kishan, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel and Umran Malik are all retained.

Left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh has been picked for the ODIs. That squad includes Pandya and Suryakumar.

England will be led by Jos Buttler, who was confirmed as their new limited-overs captain on Thursday.

Rahul on path to recovery

KL Rahul has undergone surgery in Germany for a sports hernia and said the process was “successful”. His return to action is expected to take time, but the “road to recovery has begun”, the opener tweeted on Wednesday night.

The usual timeframe for an athlete to return to full activity following a sports hernia surgery is between six and 12 weeks. That Rahul would be going to Germany for treatment was reported by The Telegraph on June 17.

Rahul led debutants Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs of IPL 2022 before losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden on May 25. He ended the IPL as the second-highest run-getter, behind Jos Buttler, with 616 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 135.38.

He subsequently failed to play the home T20Is against South Africa with “a right groin injury” as revealed by the BCCI. Kuldeep Yadav also missed the series because of a hand injury. (Our Bureau)
