A strong bond between each of the players will help the team achieve the goal they have set for themselves, emphasised India’s white-ball captain Rohit Sharma.

In an interview to bcci.tv, Rohit, who replaced Virat Kohli to become India’s full-time limited-overs captain after having taken over the T20I captaincy last month, said: “We want to create a strong bond between players and that will help us in achieving the goal we want. And yeah, Rahulbhai (Rahul Dravid) is obviously going to help us in doing that.”

Filtering the outside noise and not getting too worked up when under pressure would also be among the important aspects of Rohit’s leadership.

“When you play for India, there will be pressure. A lot of people will talk a lot of things, both positive and negative.

“For me personally, as a cricketer, it’s important to focus on my job and not on what others are talking about,” he said.

Back your own game and treat all outside talk as “immaterial”. That’s Rohit’s advice to his teammates.

“The team does understand that when we play a high-profile tournament, there will be a lot of talk and discussions going on. But what’s important for us is to focus what we have in hand.

“That is to win games and play the way you are known to play.”
