India captain Rohit Sharma admitted poor bowling led to their four-wicket loss to Australia in Mohali on Tuesday. “I don’t think we bowled well... 200 (208) is a good score to defend, and we didn’t take our chances on the field. It was a great effort from our batters, but bowlers were not quite there,” Rohit said. “There are things we need to look at... It was a great game for us to understand where we went wrong and what we can do better in the next game. We knew this is a high-scoring ground.

“You can’t relax even if you get 200. We took wickets to an extent, but they played really well. They played some extraordinary shots,” Rohit said.

“I think they got a 60-odd partnership in 32 balls but we were not able to take that extra wicket. That was the turning point, if we would have taken another wicket, things would have been different,” the captain felt. Rohit praised the efforts of the batters.

“You can’t score 200 everyday, you need to bat well. Hardik (Pandya) batted really well... We need to look at our bowling.”

Aaron Finch too was pleased with the batters’ efforts. “It was a good contest, wasn’tit? We had some really good partnerships, there were some good contests between the bat and ball. They came hard at us,” the Australia T20captain said.

“I thought the intent of all our guys, the way they just attacked their match-ups and really took it on and tried to change the momentum of the game was really good. That’s what we play for, we still try to instil all the processes leading into the World Cup.”

Man of the Match Cameron Green said the way the Indians batted gave them an idea of how to go about their task of chasing 209.
