Rishabh Pant on Friday underwent a successful knee ligament surgery under the surpervision of a panel of doctors, led by Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

Pant was shifted to the Mumbai hospital after being airlifted from Dehradun on Wednesday for urgent surgery on one of two ligament tears in his knee.

Pant miraculously escaped after crashing his Mercedes into a divider on National Highway 58 in Roorkee on December 30.

Dr Pardiwala, the head of the Centre for Sports Medicine and Director of Arthroscopy & Shoulder Service at the hospital, had previously worked with Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja among others.

Pant, a Grade A cricketer in the BCCI centrally-contracted players list, had plastic surgery to treat facial injuries and abrasions at Max Hospital in Dehradun. MRI scans of the knee weren’t possible there because of the pain and swelling.

Given the nature of his injury, it is unlikely that he will return to action before this year’s IPL.

He will also miss India’s four-Test series against Australia at home, beginning next month. His appearance in the World Test Championship final in England in June, if India make it, also appears doubtful. The other big assignment this year is the ODI World Cup in India in October-November.
