The gun fielder he is, Ravindra Jadeja is “always in the hotspot in any format” and that could be the reason behind his spate of injuries in the recent past.

Both Team India and Jadeja wouldn’t be too interested in the past though as the all-rounder’s timely return is certainly a shot in the arm ahead of the third Test beginning here on Thursday.

Missing the second Test in Visakhapatnam owing to a hamstring injury, Jadeja had headed to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. There, he focused on the specifics at the training process to return fit for this Test at his home venue.

“Since it’s a Test series, we had planned his training accordingly. The Rajkot wicket tends to be on the flatter side, and that had to be kept in mind when finalising how much Jadeja needed to bowl in training,” an NCA insider told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

“So, we used to make him bowl one-hour-long spells. With the bat too, he used to spend an hour or so. Fielding-wise though, the training wouldn’t be so long.

“Only after he spent that period of time bowling, batting and fielding without showing any signs of discomfort, he was declared ‘fit’.”

So far as getting into the rhythm is concerned, Jadeja believes it will happen in a day or two. “I don’t think too much about it (returning from injury) because that has happened before as well.

“It’s just that it lasts for one or two match days. But as the game progresses, the body will get used to the flow. I believe I’ll get into the rhythm in one or two days,” Jadeja said.

“I would like to give my 100 per cent, but also save my body and keep away from diving when not required,” he quipped.

So much of cricket around can lead to the recurrence of injuries and again bring those “frustrating” days out of the field back. But Jadeja is prepared for it.

“It’s frustrating, but cricket has increased and that is always at the back of the mind. I can’t hide anywhere in the field. I’m always in the hotspot in any format and the ball comes to me often. There’s an expectation from the team that I’ll take a good catch or field well, which is good.

“But I can surely work on my body a little more smartly and do it carefully, hoping there will be not be any problem. There’s no guarantee though,” he explained.
