Yashasvi Jaiswal’s stunning start to his international career ended on 171 as India declared their first innings on 421 for five after lunch. The hosts were shot out for 150 on the opening day.

Virat Kohli batted with caution and discipline but fell for 76 shortly after lunch. Rahkeem Cornwall’s delivery turned and bounced a bit and Kohli turned it into the hands of leg slip.

It was one innings Kohli would love to forget as runs were hard to come by because of the lack of pace in the pitch. He was lucky to survive on 40 when Brathwaite put down a catch at short cover off Jomel Warrican.

India lost Jaiswal and Ajinkya Rahane in the first session.

The interest at the start was if Jaiswal could record a double century on debut but the youngster failed to live up to expectations despite a promising start to the day. He reached his 150 in only the second over of the day but then paid the price for losing his concentration and fishing outside the off stump.

Jaiswal’s innings finally ended when he nicked Alzarri Joseph behind the wickets trying to push at a short delivery. It was a rare loose shot from the left-handed opener.

The youngster looked disgusted at himself for having attempted that shot though all the members in the Indian pavilion’s balcony stood up to acknowledge his efforts on his debut innings.

Jaiswal was aggressive on Friday and he even hit the first six of his international career as he came down the wicket to Jomel Warrican and lifted him over the bowler’s head.
