In less than 24 hours after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from T20Is, Ravindra Jadeja also did the same.
Hours after India won their second T20 World Cup crown in Bridgetown on Saturday, Jadeja bid farewell from the international stage of T20 cricket. On Sunday, Jadeja wrote on his Instagram handle: “With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals.
“Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I’ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats. Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 international career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support.”
Jadeja’s decision means Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav will have a bigger role to play and will need to shoulder extra responsibility.
Quitting T20Is after 74 appearances, Jadeja didn’t have too big a role to play in this World Cup. He faced only 22 balls in five innings, aggregating 35 runs and bowled 14 overs with one wicket at an economy rate of 7.57.
