Till late evening on Saturday, there was no confirmation on whether Ravichandran Ashwin would rejoin the India squad in the third Test, having left for home after the second day’s proceedings owing to a family emergency.
However, on Sunday morning, a statement from the BCCI confirmed that Ashwin would be back in action on Sunday, the fourth day of the Test.
During the tea break on Sunday, the senior off-spinner was seen bowling in one of the practice pitches of the Niranjan Shah Stadium. He then took the field in the day’s final session when England were 18/2 after being set a massive 557-run victory target.
Ashwin was available to bowl any time when required. With his penalty time for being off the field waived off by the umpires, the off-spinner was brought into the attack in the 28th over of England’s second innings.
He even got the wicket of Tom Hartley to contribute to the team's victory.
